What’s it worth?

- JAMIE BREESE

Q I have a 58-piece dining set marked “Royal Mail” – over 50 years old and only ever used for show. Any clues on value? Samantha Brett, East London

A As a job lot your vintage set, showing stagecoaches of the 1700s and 1800s, is worth several hundred pounds. You might make more by selling pieces individually. The set was made by Myott Son & Co, a Staffordshire firm founded in 1897. A fire in 1949 destroyed records that resulted in a loss of history which collectors rely on. However, decorative wares of the 1920s to 1940s create interest and the precise value would depend on the decade they were produced.

Q My uncle is thinking of selling some commemorative Bell’s whisky decanters. We have three of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s wedding, one for the Queen’s 60th birthday and one for Prince William’s birth. What are they worth? Zoe Kinniburgh, via Facebook

A That’s a small but good collection you have there – the highlight being the birth of William, dated June 21, 1982. It’s worth around £100 and the Andrew and Sarah Wedding decanter is worth around £60.

Q Hello! I’m a fan of your column and hope you can help. Me and my wonderful son-in-law have found 15 Home and Country magazines from 1928. Any thoughts? Wendy Western, via Facebook A This title went on to become the WI Home & Country magazine and was a must for Women’s Institute members. So it may not be tremendously rare. That said, I’d imagine they would fetch £5 or so each, in good condition. Best to store them out of direct sunlight and maybe hang on to them to see if the value rises.
