Greedy energy giants set to gobble £500m of your cash
ENERGY firms are set to raise prices by a total of £500million as remaining suppliers prepare to pile in behind British Gas, EDF and E.on increases.
The UK’s biggest supplier sparked the stampede by hitting four million customers with a £60 annual standard tariff rise, adding £246million to bills.
Now Npower, SSE and Scottish Power are set to follow suit with rises after French-owned EDF Energy and German E.on joined British Gas this week by announcing £16 and £22 rises, adding £42million in total.
Householders could end up forking out £500million extra, say experts. Mark Todd, of energyhelpline, warned: “Energy giants are blaming wholesale price rises and government policy.
“Half of the big suppliers have now played their hand with price rises close to £300million.”
