Strike threat for Asda over pension cuts
ASDA stores could be hit by strikes in a row over pension rights.
The GMB union said it may ballot members after Britain’s third biggest supermarket group proposed to cut contributions to its staff pension to the legal minimum.
The US-owned chain currently matches staff contributions up to a 3 per cent ceiling. But it wants to drop that to the legal minimum of 2 per cent.
The strike warning comes after talks between Asda and the GMB failed.
GMB national officer Gary Carter said: “There is potential for action because our members are very unhappy about it.”
