KANE’S POWER SERG

Walker: Harry’s a deadly finisher and is right up there with Aguero

KYLE WALKER reckons Harry Kane will be England’s answer to Sergio Aguero.

Walker bagged the Premier League title and a Carabao Cup medal for Manchester City this season, with team-mate Aguero (below) hitting the net 30 times during a campaign in which he became the club’s record goalscorer.

The England defender saw Kane burst through at Tottenham – and now he is backing him to become the nation’s talisman at the World Cup after his double that downed Tunisia in the opening game.

Captain Kane will lead out Gareth Southgate’s men against Panama today and Walker said: “I’ve played with ‘H’ since he was 15.

“I remember he used to come up for first-team training at Tottenham sometimes, then you wouldn’t see him for a couple of weeks, and he’s always been a finisher.

“Have I played with anyone like him? Probably only Aguero comes close.

“Harry is that good. You put him in the box and he’s deadly, as he has proved, season in and season out for the past three years.”

Kane has 15 goals in 25 games for England. The other 22 members of the squad have only 44 international goals between them. But Walker (left) is not worried that the Three Lions rely too heavily on their No.9.

He said: “I don’t know what you guys feel from the outside looking in, but I read something when I signed for City that Raheem Sterling didn’t score enough goals – and he answered back with 20-plus goals. I feel there are goals in every area – Jamie Vardy, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, who has played exceptionally for Manchester United this season.

“There’s more than enough goals in the team and we have already shown we are also dangerous at set plays, with the height we have got.”

Walker has felt comfortable switching from right-back to play on the right of Southgate’s three-man defence after a season at club level in which he felt he developed hugely. Pep Guardiola texted him before the Tunisia game to wish him well. Although Walker gave away the penalty that let the North Africans equalise, he feels Guardiola has given him a wider understanding of the game to go with his blistering pace.

The Yorkshireman has always been quick. “When I was 11, I was timed at 10.52sec for the 100 metres when I ran for Sheffield Athletics club,” he said. “At 100m I think I’d be the quickest in the squad. Who do you think is quicker than me? Raheem? With his little legs?

“Over 50m he might get there but not over the 100.” Walker added: “I feel the biggest thing I’ve learned this season is knowledge of the game. It comes from playing experience – but also from Pep.

“I’ve gone home and studied games for hours on end – not about my physical attributes, getting up and crossing the ball – but just understanding where people go.

“Before, if I had given that penalty away like I did against Tunisia, I would have sunk.

“It’s how you bounce back from things like that. It’s something I have learned this season. I have had to learn to adapt to certain situations. Now I don’t sink.”
