INSCRIBE TO MAKE MARK

Hard to oppose Ger’s star miler

- BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT

AT last the waiting is finally over and the seven day extravaganza that is the Galway Festival is upon us.

The centrepiece of Irish racing’s summer kicks off tomorrow evening and, as ever, there is plenty to look forward to.

Willie Mullins is once again likely to be a major force at a meeting where he has been increasingly dominant in recent seasons.

Indeed there is every chance he will notch up another leading trainer’s title at the expense of Dermot Weld who should enjoy another productive week.

Over the course of the seven days there are a number of horses that catch the eye and the following five could make it a profitable as well as an enjoyable week.

INSCRIBE

Runs: 7.40 Tuesday

GER Lyons can land Tuesday’s Colm Quinn BMW Mile for the second time courtesy of this four-year-old.

Since coming to Ireland Inscribe has done nothing but improve and he was an impressive winner at the Curragh on his last start two months ago.

This stiff mile will suit him as will any further easing in the ground and he has long looked a premier handicap winner in waiting.

HASSELNOTT

Runs: 8.10 or 8.40 Tuesday

THIS five-year-old, who was third in a seven furlong handicap here last year, is worth watching out for.

On his most recent outing he caught the eye with a strong finishing third in a mile handicap at Killarney.

Despite running quite well this season he has dropped down the weights since last year and he is one that could relish the softening ground.

TULLY EAST

Runs: 7.20 Wednesday

THIS former Cheltenham Festival winner could be the answer to Wednesday’s Tote-sponsored Galway Plate.

He has yet to add to his Cheltenham success but there is no doubt that he has another good prize in him.

He showed up well in a couple of high class contests last season and his experience in quality, big field handicaps is a major positive.

DAVIDS CHARM Runs: 4.35 Thursday

THIS John Joe Walsh inmate could keep the Willie Mullins team at bay in this year’s Guinness Galway Hurdle.

Over the last year Davids Charm has done nothing but improve and he boasts some high class handicap form.

His big race success at Fairyhouse in December and his unlucky second to Lagostovegas at Listowel last September are among the most attractive pieces of form in the Hurdle.

ACCLAMATIO

Runs: 5.15 Thursday

HE will need plenty of horses to come out if he is to get into a handicap on Thursday but he should be followed wherever he runs.

His third to Pearl Of The West and Mr Adjudicator at last year’s meeting was a good run and suggests that he can add to his tally on the flat.

Admittedly his recent form isn’t inspiring but Tony Martin’s string often turn up at Ballybrit in the form of their lives.
