Carson wants to keep out pal Lafferty and says Well can do Gers damage at other end
TREVOR CARSON knows the damage Kyle Lafferty can inflict after 15 years being on the receiving end.
But he reckons it’s Rangers’ centre-halves who should be more worried about containing Motherwell this afternoon than the Fir Park defenders facing his old Northern Ireland pal.
The Well keeper knows his side face a far bigger test from Steven Gerrard’s new-look side than they got last season.
With the physical presence of Curtis Main. Conor Sammon and Ryan Bowman up front for Motherwell, though, no matter the improvement brought about by the Liverpool legend, Carson has warned Rangers to expect no quarter. He added: “Rangers have done really well so far but everyone realised they were going to get stronger this year.
“They’ve spent a lot of money so you expect improvements. It’s definitely going to be a tougher test than we faced last year against
Rangers.
“Going up against them as we did in the first game of last season, even though they beat us 2-1, it gave you a bit of confidence. This year they’ve got a lot of talented players and, more importantly, players working for the shirt.
“Last year one or two of the foreign boys weren’t like that.”
One player he’s in no doubt will play for the Rangers badge on his chest is international team-mate Lafferty (inset).
He said: “He’s a great signing for Rangers. It just shows you where they’re going.
“Kyle’s been brilliant since he came back up here and scored a lot of goals.
“He’s a Rangers man as well. That is the type of player they are signing – lads who will play for the shirt. You can see that in the performances.
“I’ve played with him since our under-16 days. He’s a great lad, always a great player and fair play to him, he’s quite clearly stated he wanted that move and got it.
“He was just what he’s like now at 16 - a bit crazy!”
