STEP UP TO It’s dirty work but somebody’s got to do it as Dublin & Tyrone

- BY PAUL KEANE

HILL 16 legend Keith Barr reckons it’ll take another moment of inspiration from a Dublin player to seal the four-in-a-row.

Former All-Star and 1995 medallist Barr said: “You win important games at this level, the big matches, by some player doing something that’s genius.

“At a specific time in the game, it’ll happen. It may be a manager putting on a sub or a moment of individual brilliance.

“Like in the All-Ireland semi-final last year, Con O’Callaghan’s goal. All of a sudden a crack appeared in Tyrone’s defence and Con punished them and we know now that the rest of the game was history after that.”

Dublin have typically relied on their bench to deliver those genius moments in finals, bringing on Diarmuid Connolly to turn last year’s decider.

Barr said Dublin have the clear edge in terms of talented subs but reckons Tyrone won’t necessarily look to their bench to win the game anyhow.

He explained:

“If Tyrone have

Dublin rattled, which means they’re still in the game with 10 or 12 minutes to go, then

Mickey Harte will not be making subs.

“He’d be mad to make changes in that scenario.

“Why would you go and do that when the players on the pitch are obviously into a rhythm?”
