Coady: You won’t catch me howling over England

- BY JAMES NURSEY SNUBBED AGAIN Coady missed out as Gareth Southgate favoured Tyrone Mings ahead of him

CONOR COADY says playing for England would be the “pinnacle” but insists he will not spend the international break bemoaning his latest snub.

The Wolves skipper is due to lead Nuno Espirito Santo’s side today at Everton in the Premier League.

He played every Premier League game last season to help the promoted club to seventh, and Wolves are now impressively into the Europa League group stages after defeating Torino on Thursday.

Coady, 26, has continued to excel in the heart of a three-man defence and is respected at Molineux for both his ability and leadership skills.

But the uncapped star has had surprisingly little joy breaking into the England set-up under Gareth Southgate.

Boss Southgate this week even picked Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings, 26, ahead of Coady, despite the defender starting just 13 top-flight games in his career.

But Scouser and former Liverpool trainee Coady insists he is not bitter, despite playing for England from Under-16s to Under-20s.

He said: “It is the pinnacle of any Englishman’s career, it really is.

“It is something where I will keep working hard, but if I am helping this club that is all I care about.

“The England manager will pick whatever he picks. I don’t look at it as if I am looking to be in there.

“They have picked some fantastic players who are playing in the Premier League. It is no problem. I love playing for Wolves and this football club.

“It doesn’t bother me whether it comes or not, it really doesn’t, I enjoy playing for this team as much as I possibly can and helping this club move forward.”

Coady has continued to play every game this term as Wolves have made a promising unbeaten start.

They play their tenth game this afternoon after starting in Europa

League qualifying on July 25.

Boss Nuno has put an emphasis on recovering well to ensure his small squad can cope with the packed schedule.

And Coady aims to get plenty of rest in the international break before Wolves return at home to Chelsea on September 14.

But he admits he will be watching when Southgate’s squad take on Bulgaria and Kosovo at Wembley in their Euro 2020 qualifiers. He added: “I watch the England games. It is fantastic.

“I love watching the England games, I think it is brilliant to watch. We will see how they get on.

“But I will look forward to the break – we have played nine games now and it will be 10 by the time we are finished.

“I think the rest of the Premier League will have played four or something daft.

“I will rest up next week and then we are ready to go against Chelsea again.

“But the kids will no doubt have me running around back home.”
