GAFFER IN CLASS OF HIS OWN WITH UEFA

- SIMON MULLOCK

A JURGEN KLOPP masterclass has been put in place to teach the next generation of top coaches.

Former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has revealed how the Kop boss has been adopted as a paragon of management virtue by the people running UEFA pro-licence courses.

Klopp’s methods helped the Reds lift the Champions League trophy last season and have now put them on course for their first title in 30 years.

And Kuyt (left), who is pursuing his own coaching career by taking charge of Feyenoord’s youth team, said: “When I was on the pro-licence course, we looked at Jurgen’s incredible eye for detail.

“His precision for preparation for games is unbelievable. Most managers like to get the squad together in the stadium very early for home games. But not

Jurgen. He wants to make the journey to Anfield as late as possible. It means the players have only just got time to put tape around their socks and put a shirt on.

“The thought behind that is that the players can only focus on the game. There are no distractions in the hours before.

“And he is spot on. He takes away the things that will only distract attention from the job the players have to do: win the game. The fact that Jurgen pays so much attention to little details like this, I find fascinating.”

Kuyt added: “People have started to think that it is normal that Liverpool win their matches every week – but it isn’t.

“The reality is that the club and the manager have been busy building everything for years.

“Jurgen has laid every brick on the castle that is being built.”
