HEAVY rockers Metallica almost lost their head guy when singer Jarvis Cocker lost his temper.

Metallica drummer and co-founder Lars Ulrich came within a whisker of being decapitated when Pulp singer Jarvis flung a wooden cut-out of himself out of a window.

Dane Lars, 56, was having a cigarette when it came crashing down.

Jarvis, also 56, was about to be interviewed by Chris Evans on Channel 4’s TFI Friday but was angry about the life-sized model.

Common People singer Jarvis recalled: “It really started to rankle me that every time I watched TFI Friday there was this cut-out of me in the centre of it all they’d got hold of from the cover shoot of Different Class. We were asked to perform it on TFI. Chris Evans wanted to interview me, and I took that as my opportunity to get rid of it. It was surprising how heavy it was and I dropped it out the window.” Revealing how he almost killed Lars in the process in Britpop biography Don’t Look Back In Anger, Jarvis said: “After the interview, I went downstairs and Lars Ulrich runs up to me and says, ‘What the f*** you doing man?’

Apparently, he’d gone outside to have a fag and, just as he stood on the front step, this cut-out came down like a f ***** g guillotine, an inch in front of his nose. Luckily it was raining a bit, so he was sheltering.

“If he’d been outside and it had fallen on his head that would have been it – Lars Ulrich killed by a wooden Jarvis Cocker.”

It was not Lars’ first near-death experience.

Twelve years ago Metallica were in a crash in Sweden which killed bassist Cliff Burton at just 24.
