King: I’m ready for Inglis exam

- BY JULIE STOTT

TOBY KING has promised to make world superstar Greg Inglis understand he’s got a fight on his hands when he arrives at Warrington. England Knights star King has been copping stick off team-mates about how he’ll lose his centre spot to Inglis when the Australian arrives for the 2021 campaign. But King insists he’s excited rather than intimidated by the competition. The 23-year-old said: “There’s been a lot of banter and I don’t want to lose my spot. I have got to look at the positives. “We’ve got the best centre in the world coming to our club so I’m going to look forward to learning off him and enjoy it.” Aussie legend Inglis, 33, is coming out of retirement to join the Wolves next season. King can also play second row but, before lockdown, was in sensational form at centre alongside winger Tom Lineham. They are a hot partnership, in attack as well as defence, with King proudly pointing out that they have yet to concede a try down their left edge in seven games this season. Away from the pitch, things were definitely bumpier between the close mates, when King lodged with Lineham for several months. Self-confessed OCD sufferer Lineham jokingly said: “Tobes wouldn’t make his bed or put his dirty clothes in the correct light or dark wash baskets. He didn’t care one bit. He wanted Cinderella to do it all for him. “I actually hated him by the end of the four months!” King was amused to hear Lineham’s assessment, and hit back with: “I reckon for £400-a-month rent I could leave my bed how I wanted. “He was an absolute nightmare landlord. If anything though, it has brought us closer.” King has played for Ireland but has pinned his colours to the England mast for next year’s World Cup. He added: “I’m proud of my Irish roots but I want to be in Shaun Wane’s thoughts for the World Cup.”
