‘Footie booze rules should get the boot’

- EXCLUSIVE BY NIGEL NELSON Political Editor

MINISTERS are being urged to let footie fans take booze to seats next season to help small clubs survive.

Lib Dem leadership hopeful Layla Moran told Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden rules from 1985 that ban drinking in sight of the pitch are outdated.

She warns some clubs face ruin in the pandemic and need more revenue.

Ms Moran said: “It is time they were able to engage and profit from the same commercial activity routine in other sports.”

Her call comes after Championship side Wigan Athletic called administrators in last week.
