BLM protesters battle US police

FEARS were growing that violence between Black Lives Matter protesters and US police was set to escalate this weekend.

Federal agents teargassed demonstrators again early yesterday as thousands gathered in Portland, Oregon.

Officials said officers were hurt as activists lit fires and hurled bottles and fireworks.

Dozens have been arrested during nightly demos. On Friday, 18 were charged with attacking police, arson and trespass.

PRINCESS Anne has revealed she decided not to give her children titles to save them from the pressures of royal life.

Peter Phillips, 42, and sister Zara, 39, were raised as plain Mr and Miss.

Anne, who is 70 on August 15, said: “It made much more sense.

“As a member of the Royal Family, expectation that comes with it is hard.”

Peter, who works in sports sponsorship, said: “We were brought up on the understanding that we were going to have to earn our living.” Equestrian Zara

The president has sent agents to various cities to tackle demos sparked by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May.

The White House said: “We will not allow anarchy in our streets.”

CARING Anne with children said: “I’m very grateful to her for not giving us a title.

“It made us both fight harder to be successful.”

A documentary for ITV, filmed over a year, also reveals how schoolgirl Anne sneaked off from her detective for fish and chips.

AS she descends the escalator into the muggy air of the London Underground, a haunting sound of gunfire echoes in her mind once more.

Vivian Meneses Figueiredo was not there 15 years ago when a police firearms team snuffed out her cousin’s life in a flash.

But CCTV of the killing and the images of her beloved relative covered in blood on a Tube train are something she can never forget. Met Police mistook innocent Jean Charles de Menezes – Vivian’s flatmate – for a terrorist.

As horrified passengers looked on at Stockwell Tube station, South London, they showered him with gunfire and rendered him lifeless on the train floor.

The memory of him lying in the morgue – seven bullets to the head – never leaves Vivian.

Yet, remarkably, she has finally been able to forgive.

DOTED

It was on July 22, 2005 that Brazilian Jean Charles, 27, died.

From that day, Vivian, 37, was never able to set foot in the flat they shared and for years would cross the road to avoid police.

She has since gained British citizenship, has had a daughter and got married – all while missing the cousin she doted on.

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Mirror, Vivian said: “There are things I don’t accept but I don’t want to carry around a lot of hate and be so miserable.

“At the beginning I had bad feeling towards the police, really bad feeling – it was making me ill.

“I had to work it out to be able to live in peace. So I don’t want to say ‘I hate all these terrorists or hate all police’, it’s not like that. What police did I think is really wrong and I probably won’t ever understand or forget.

“But do I carry this big hate for them in my heart?

“No, I worked it out. I can’t bring my cousin back. My pain is my pain.

“He is gone and gone for ever.”

Jean Charles, an electrician, died the day after a failed plot by four men to blow up Tube trains and a bus.

It was just two weeks after fanatics killed 52 Londoners in the 7/7 terror attacks.

Officers were watching flats where Jean Charles and Vivian lived in Tulse Hill. They shared a
