Join us and Move Against Cancer

-

Podcasts are one of the growth areas inspired by Covid and I have been honoured to be interviewed by many over the last year.

This week, however, I was invited to a Facebook Live interview that I have been itching to get on for a while as it involves a voluntary organisation that is the epitome of all that I stand for in my life with prostate cancer, and that is 5K Your Way, Move Against Cancer.

My friend Tony, who also has advanced prostate cancer, has been working with them for a while now and has now got me involved. Sadly many people who have cancer feel alone and unable to take part in things that they once could as they may feel embarrassed or not good enough which, while not true, is understandable.

5KYW encourages like-minded people with cancer to get outside and do things again, even if it may be shorter and slower than before because just being outside is enough to lift the spirits, plus, of course, you get the physical benefits of exercise.

In the pre-Covid world, they attached themselves to the amazing free weekly 5k park runs once a month so that individuals can attempt to do five kilometres their own way

– walking or running – but at the same time be part of a collective who encourage and support way beyond the event itself.

Cancer does not have to mean the end of everything, yet the conventional belief is that it is. This leads to many people not even trying and just giving up on life, which is why this group is so amazing.

They have a great Facebook group you can join that will give inspiration and support in lockdown and something amazing to look forward to as soon as we are all allowed to be out together again.

Just enter 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer in the search function on Facebook and you can read so many inspirational stories from ordinary people. If you don’t have cancer you can still join and be inspired to perhaps support someone who does. You could be the catalyst to get them living again – what a sense of worth that could give you! Until next week,

Kev

Sadly, many with cancer feel they’re ‘not good enough’ to get involved
