Roy: Reds scared of challenge

-

record for 18 successive away games without a league defeat, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men dropped points for the third time in four games.

Edinson Cavani missed several gilt-edged chances in the second half against an Arsenal there for taking.

Keane went on: “The worry for me, watching them, was they almost lacked the belief that they could go and win the game.

“It’s Man United. You’re looking at Arsenal who are missing a few players.

“I know that doesn’t guarantee you to win football matches but the game was there for the taking.

“Imagine playing for Manchester United and having a lack of belief that you can go and win a game of football.

“All of a sudden people are saying, ‘Can you win the league, can you compete with Man City?’

“It’s as if they’ve gone, ‘I don’t think we’re ready for that yet.’

“Cavani obviously has got to score. Overall, the performance lacked that intensity.”

Solskjaer said: “We don’t think about the title race or title now — we’re in January.

“The game gives us more belief again because we dominated and created enough big chances to win the game.”

Arsenal were without captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is quarantining after spending time sorting out a family issue, Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka.

Arteta said: “It was a fair result. Both managers probably think they should have won it.

“The fact we have three of our best players out probably has an impact but I’m really happy with the players who played.

“We made some changes to be much more efficient in the second half to be much closer to them.”
