Trump slams ‘witch hunt’ at acquittal
DONALD Trump was acquitted at his impeachment trial last night.
The Senate cleared him of inciting last month’s storming of the Capitol – in which five people died – by 57 votes to 43.
Only seven Republicans voted with the Democrats to convict him, 10 short of what was needed.
The vote gave the former president a historic second acquittal in an impeachment trial and means he can run for office again.
Mr Trump, who had been charged with incitement of insurrection, said the five-day trial was the “greatest witch hunt in the history of our country”.
His lawyer Michael van der Veen said it had been “the unhinged pursuit of a long-standing political vendetta” against him.
PARENTS are being urged to bombard Jacob ReesMogg with pleas for action over the price of school uniforms.
Labour MP Mike Amesbury says time is “running out” on legislation to make kit cheaper because of the lack of “political will”.
His Education (Guidance about Costs of School Uniforms) Bill has been delayed after the Leader of the House suspended Commons time for Private Members’ Bills because of Covid measures.
The Children’s Society calculates that uniforms cost £340 a year for a secondary pupil and £255 for a primary school pupil.
Mr Amesbury is backing a call by the society for a letter-writing campaign to Mr Rees-Mogg to ensure the Bill isn’t lost as parents prepare to send their children back to school postpandemic.
He said: “I urge all parents to write to him.”
