Ole’s luck on Brexit

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER insists Brexit will never prompt him to give up his Norwegian passport – even for Manchester United.

Solskjaer, 47, landed the Old Trafford job in 2018.

But if new post-Brexit rules on the level of coaching experience required by foreign applicants had been in place then, he wouldn’t have been qualified.

Leeds’ Marcelo Bielsa would also have been denied entry under the regulations adopted by the Football Association and the Home Office last month.

Solskjaer said: “I’m lucky it wasn’t like this before, because I wouldn’t be here.

“But I would never swap my Norwegian citizenship or passport with any other passport to get a new job.”

MARCELO BIELSA has confirmed he will play no role in deciding his successor at Leeds.

Bielsa has dropped a huge hint that he will remain boss at Elland Road for a fourth season after admitting he is heavily involved in the recruitment process for new players. While his Leeds squad has been built to put the Argentine’s philosophy into play, he does not want to help select a manager capable of carrying on his work.

Bielsa said: “There are many people at the club who have the capacity to make that evaluation, which I don’t.”

Leeds are well on course to finish in the top half of the table after returning to the top flight.

And Bielsa (left) added: “The positions are only definitive when you’ve effectively finished in them.

“I think that the team has shown it competes regardless of the necessities and the position in the table.

“This has been shown in games where we’ve been behind by a big margin and we’ve continued to compete.”
