Not time to reveal animosity
PRINCE Philip achieved an incredible amount in his 99 years, but his greatest legacy may be bringing William and Harry back together.
Millions wanted to see them side by side for the first time since Harry and Meghan’s highly damaging TV interview with Oprah Winfrey.
But with their cousin Peter Phillips standing between them during the procession, they had to wait until the end to see them together.
Catherine was the first to speak to Harry outside the chapel, when she drew him in so he could begin to relate to his brother in a sociable, friendly manner, so if there was any burning animosity it would be well hidden.
So despite the pair seemingly being on speaking terms and breaking the ice, we should treat the exchange with caution until we hear more.
It was not the moment to be anything other than friendly and even if their brotherly love was in short supply, they were not going to give anyone the pleasure of witnessing it.
Prince Philip had always advised being a member of the family firm meant dedicating yourself to duty rather than self. “It’s not a popularity contest,” he was fond of saying. “It’s about all of us working together for the good of the monarchy.”
Perhaps for the sake of their grandfather whom they both described as a “legend”, they might decide there is no point in carrying on their feud and, in his memory, put their hurt feelings aside and do what he would have wanted them to.
