Giving a thumbs-up to living a full life

- By Kevin Webber

If there is one thing I love, it’s a week jam-packed with great things – and this week has been one of the busiest.

Monday started with my book launch. The delivery was slightly delayed, but I am immensely proud to have detailed the seven years of my prostate cancer journey.

It’s been cathartic putting things on paper with my friend Mark Church – not only for me, but for my kids and anyone who feels that life is getting them down. I genuinely believe it’s a book of hope and inspiration, not sadness. You can order it at pitchpublishing.co.uk/shop/dead-man-running.

I was then delighted to receive a last-minute invite to the test match from a friend. The score was not what I wanted, being English, but a day with a friend in the sun watching cricket is always a good day!

Next up was a work team meeting, actually face-to-face. I had not seen my colleagues for 18 months and many are new to the team, so a day getting to know each other and planning how we will work in a post-Covid world was an utter joy.

The rest of the week has been a whirlwind too, getting an ECG done for my first overseas race for 18 months, presenting to colleagues about my cancer journey and seeing live band

Limehouse Lizzy again after 18 months – which by pure fluke is the same as the last band I saw back in

March 2020.

Just before that I had to go to Brighton to get my race number for the Brighton Marathon. I am looking forward to this race as it’s six years since I ran when I was first diagnosed and on week 13 of chemotherapy. More next week on how I got on.

Yesterday, I was on the Run Ultra stand at the National Running Show in Farnborough, Hants, promoting ultra running, specifically the Marathon Des Sables, Costa Rica Challenge and Everest Trail race while signing copies of my book.

I always say we should live life to the full but I think this one has been exceptional. I hope you grab the chance to do the same.

Until next week,

Kev
