Take it as red Hands yet again

everything in and that’s what they do, everything revolves around football. They gave us a commitment at the start of the year that they would do whatever it takes and they did.

“It wasn’t exactly in a straight line but we got there, and it’s just good to be here at this stage – probably over the next few days at home, we will know exactly what it means.”

Dooher revealed that the new Tyrone management team were determined to hit the ground running this year and not wait around in their quest to put the county back on top.

He said: “Why wait a year or two? You might have only one chance so you make the most of it.

“And let’s face it, we had the rub of the green at times and we needed it, particularly in the semifinal, we got a right bit of luck. And today too, we used up a right bit of it.

“The way we look at it with the players is, don’t wait until tomorrow, do what you can today. And them boys did that – and you never know, you might never be back in an All-Ireland final. You have to grasp that opportunity when it comes.”

Dooher, 46, described the contest as “chaotic” – Mayo missed a number of golden goal chances, including a 41st minute penalty, while Tyrone took theirs – and he pointed to Cathal McShane’s opener five minutes later as vital.

“It came so soon after they missed the penalty, Cathal’s goal was probably key in creating that separation and we managed to keep that,” said Dooher. “Cathal came on, and Darragh Canavan came on and gave us a bit extra. And we created a few

scores.”
