You Brits think KFC is to Di for

EXCLUSIVE KRISTEN Stewart reckons she learned a lot about Brits while preparing to play Princess Diana in the biopic, Spencer.

But the actress’s biggest takeaway was that we are all “obsessed” with KFC.

At the end of the film, Diana can be seen escaping Sandringham – the Queen’s Norfolk estate – to give young William and Harry a taste of normal life with the Finger Lickin’ Good fast food.

The restaurant chain has since released a woollen sweater inspired by the Princess of

Wales’ iconic black sheep jumper – but KFC’s cheeky version has chickens on it instead.

American actress Kristen, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as Diana, says of the jumper: “I haven’t seen it, but

I’ve heard about it. That’s really funny to me. But if you’ve spent any time in the UK, they are obsessed with that s*** – I think more so than here they have a thing about KFC.”

Putting on an English accent, the Twilight actress jokes: “I have a few friends who have the resounding sound of, ‘We need to go for a Zinger Burger’.”

Spencer – directed by Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain – is set over three days in December 1991 as the Royal Family spend Christmas together.

Kristen, 31, spent four months mastering Diana’s

British accent and walk, and also learned how to curtsy. “I’ve never had such a prep schedule for myself,” she says.

Diana to channel her style and essence. But she admits the amount of information and images available were overwhelming at first – and she started thinking of the princess as a “friend” in a bid to impersonate her.

Kristen may be the hot favourite to win the Best Actress award at next year’s Oscars, but says she doesn’t “give a s***” about taking home the prestigious gong.

“The Oscars are such a funny thing,” she says. “There are so many incredible movies and performances that barely get seen.

“It definitely says something about where we’re at as a cumulative presence, like, what we’re looking at, what we care about.” The star, who announced her engagement to girlfriend Dylan Meyer last month, enjoyed playing Diana so much that it’s now her “fantasy” to act out another three days of her life. “Pablo and I talk about this all the time,” she says. “We could shoot this movie for ever.” laura.connor@ reachplc.com
