Sussexes unhappy with £11m mansion

- BY SARAH ROBERTSON scoops@sundaymirror.co.uk

THE Duke and Duchess of Sussex are keen to sell their Californian mansion, just 18 months after buying it for a cool £11million.

The Sunday Mirror can reveal the couple “aren’t over the moon about the house”, which has nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a spa, pool, tea house and tennis court.

They are said to dislike its location in celebrity haunt Montecito, on the Pacific coast.

A source close to Harry says the couple have already made discreet enquiries about other properties.

They have also told their wealthy friends that they are open to private offers for the mansion.

Our royal source said:“They are thinking of selling their house, but it won’t be on the market because of who they are.

SERIOUS

“It’s only being shown to people who are confirmed with funds and who are serious buyers.”

Celebrities such as Adele, Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey – who conducted a bombshell interview with Harry and Meghan last year – have homes in Montecito.

The area, which is close to Santa Barbara, is renowned for its secluded private estates.

But our source says the Sussexes like neither their current property, or the part of town in which it is situated.

They said: “They want to remain in the neighbourhood or nearby but aren’t over the moon about the house and location.”

Harry and Meghan quit royal life in March 2020 to move closer to the bright lights of Hollywood.

Their former UK home – Frogmore Cottage in Windsor – is currently being used by Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, and her husband, Jack Brooksbank.

The Sussexes bought their US property in June 2020 from Russian businessman Sergey Grishin.

He had snapped it up some 11 years earlier for around £17million.

Harry and Meghan live in the mansion with their two-year-old son Archie and baby daughter, Lilibet.

It is set in more than seven acres of land and surrounded by pine and cypress trees and rose gardens.

The main building has a library, office, a spa with a dry and wet sauna, gym, cinema room, games room and a wine cellar.

A separate guest house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and there is also a private playground for the children.

Meghan gave the public a glimpse of the couple’s living room during a surprise appearance on America’s Got Talent in September 2020.

On the walls were prints believed to have been gifted by Oprah.

The couple also showed off their extensive collection of books, which included A Photographer’s Life: 1990-2005 by celebrity snapper Annie Leibovitz.
