My resolution? Don’t waste time

- Running with terminal cancer By Kevin Webber Kev

So that’s it – 2021 has been and gone and with it Xmas festivities in whatever form you managed to have. Whatever they were for you, I hope you found an abundance of joy somewhere.

Now, 2022 is a new chapter. What’s gone has gone and while Covid has been grim at times it has made my planning more agile. I now have a Plan A (the one I really want), a Plan B, C and D (all still great but just not my A choice).

Plan A is running races all over the world including in Bhutan, Costa Rica, the Sahara, Spain even a trip to Everest Base Camp – all for Prostate Cancer UK. However, Covid and the fact my own health makes me uninsurable for extreme challenges may get in the way, so... Plan B.

That consists of doing everything in the UK, including a monster trek that I will share another time, weekend ultra marathons all over the country and perhaps seeing how many of the highest peaks I can climb in a year. But, of course, I still need to be very fit for those.

That leads on to Plan C – small, flatter hikes in places I have never seen around the UK along with shorter races. And, finally, Plan D where I end up running laps of my back garden again as I did in an earlier lockdown.

So while I would love

Plan A to happen, if it doesn’t then all the other plans are

OK with me too and will give me the ability to raise funds for charity and prove that you don’t need to give up on everything even when the ducks are not all in a row.

First up, and starting now, is Run The Month for

Prostate Cancer UK where I have to cover a marathon distance (or more) over the course of January. It’s a great way for anyone to start off the New Year, get rid of any excesses and get fitter for life, so why don’t you join me and have a look at the charity website?

Don’t do nothing and waste the year, but whatever you choose, make sure you have back-ups too. By planning now you should have a cracking 2022 one way or another, be it running, cycling, walking, baking, knitting, volunteering, educating or anything else that makes you happy and helps rather than harms in some way.

Until next week, Happy New Year, and don’t waste it as it will never be 2022 again!
