Poorly grandad Prince Philip ‘still thinks he’s 55’

- BY VICTORIA MURPHY Royal Correspondent

THE Queen’s grandson, Peter Phillips, has spoken out about Prince Philip’s health scare, saying, “He’s nearly 95 but his head thinks he’s 55.”

The Duke of Edinburgh pulled out of Battle of Jutland commemorations this week on medical advice. Peter, Princess Anne’s son, said: “I think he is OK. It was a sensible decision given the weather and all the rest of it.”

From 2011 to 2013, Prince Philip, who turns 95 on Friday, was hospitalised four times.

Peter, 38, said: “You worry about your grandparents every day. Just the same as everyone does.”

He spoke ahead of the Patron’s Lunch on The Mall next Sunday, a party for 10,000 guests his company has organised for an undisclosed sum to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. He revealed she had been “very touched” by the country’s outpouring of affection.

He insisted his grandparents were not “slowing down”.

He said: “The Duke is as determined as ever to plough on and keep things as normal as possible. His mind still wants to do what he did when he was 55.

“I don’t think it’s a secret that they’re both looking to reduce their workload and the younger members of the family are definitely taking on a lot more.”

He added: “Certainly, the Duke is now at the point where he only wants to do things that he enjoys.”
