Troubled Kenny pops the question... in a bar
SOCCER legend Kenny Sansom, who has been battling alcoholism, has got engaged – in a hotel bar.
England star Kenny got down on one knee in Gibraltar to ask former mistress Denise Mullins to marry him after flying out for an all- star tournament.
The couple first met in a bar 10 years ago.
A witness said: “The place was full, with about 20 to 30 people.
“Kenny said, ‘Sorry everyone, can I just ask for a bit of quiet. I’m going to propose to my girlfriend.’ It was all really touching, the whole bar gave a round of applause.”
Kenny, 57, made his romantic gesture two weeks ago. The witness added: “They both looked so happy together. The ring was beautiful.”
Denise, 60, has loyally backed Kenny through a turbulent ten year on-off relationship during which he has battled alcohol and gambling addic- tions, as well as depression. The former Arsenal star played 86 times for England and is considered one of the world’s finest ever left-backs. In May last year he spent a night in custody after downing five bottles of wine and having a row with Denise when she locked him out of her house. He was fined and the pair broke up, but later got back together. The Sunday Mirror arranged him a stint in rehab after he told us he had been sleeping in a park, starting his day with a bottle of wine and knocking back Night Nurse to get to sleep. He began seeing Denise after meeting her in a bar in Marbella, Spain in 2006, walking out on ex-wife Elaine after 29 years.
