Even your dinner has a thrilling
We headed to our little crooked house, all decked out like a fairy den.
We felt like we were going deep into the forest at Woodland Lodges, but we were actually at Alton Towers, where a collection of new cottages – familyfriendly and brimming with fun – opened recently.
Housed in the Enchanted Village, it’s close to the popular Splash Landings hotel, but it’s gentle and serene. However, as idyllic as it was, there was one thrill I wasn’t going to miss – the Rollercoaster Restaurant, the first one to be ... er... rolled out in the UK.
When you’re at Alton Towers for a weekend of theme park fun, it’s fairly safe to say you’ll expect to be in for a roller coaster ride or two. But I had never imagined one of the most thrilling loop-the-loops I’d experience would come when a steak made its way to my table.
It was mesmerising to watch dish after dish I had ordered on the table’s tablet to come whizzing down from the maze of tracks lining the ceiling above to land on a spinning platform at my table ready for me to extract from its holder and dish up.
From ribs to steak to a warm chocolate brownie, each dish – well strapped in – came whirling into view soon after I made my order, simply by entering my seat number and what it was I wanted to arrive.
The temptation was to keep ordering more just to witness this engineering feat over and over again – but
