Guidetti’s out to do it for fans

- BY STEVE STAMMERS

SWEDEN’S John Guidetti knows they have to win back the fans after a campaign in which they struggled to qualify for the Euro finals.

Erik Hamren’s team face Wales today as they put the finishing touches to their build-up for France.

“What you always should expect, as a supporter, is that every player does his best,” said the former Manchester City, Stoke and Celtic striker, who now plays for Celta Vigo in Spain.

“That means everyone is ready to die for each other on the pitch, that you are ready to die for your country and that you always give everything.”

Guidetti has tasted Euro glory before. The 24-year-old was part of the team that won the UEFA Under-21 tournament last summer – and never tired of re-runs of that triumph.

“I have watched the tournament so many times that my girlfriend has hid the film from me!” he said.

Sweden midfielder Kim Kallstrom, who plays at Zurich Grasshoppers and had a loan spell at Arsenal, recalled the play-off victory over Denmark that earned the Swedes their Euros ticket.

Kallstrom said: “Everybody felt that we were on the verge of falling off a cliff. Against Denmark, we suddenly clicked in a way we haven’t before.

“I can still feel that atmosphere in the team and we need that feeling during the Euros.”
