Star shot dead as she meets fans

- BY ALAN SELBY

THE Voice star Christina Grimmie has died after being shot as she signed autographs for fans.

The gunman is said to have burst through crowds after she finished a show and blasted her in the head. The singer’s brother Mark tried to tackle the attacker, who shot himself dead.

Christina, 22, who came third in the US version of The Voice two years ago, died in hospital early yesterday. Her publicist said: “Christina went home to be with the Lord.”

Medics had tried to resuscitate the star following a reported “four or five shots” from the unidentified attacker. Hot dog seller Josh Call said: “A gentleman was face-down with blood everywhere. It looked like he had shot this girl and killed himself. They had injuries you would not want to see again. It was horrifying.”

Mr Call said it appeared Christina had been shot in the head and the gunman’s head was also badly damaged. And unconfirmed reports said the singer had been shot twice in the head.

Christina, from New Jersey, was supporting band Before You Exit at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Florida, on Friday night.

Police identified Kevin James Loibl, 27, of Florida, as the shooter. He had no known connection to the singer, officers also said.

They added he may have been a deranged fan but a motive is still unknown.

The Voice paid tribute to Christina yesterday, tweeting: “We lost a beautiful soul.”
