What’s it worth?

SUNDAY MIRROR JAMIE BREESE On Antiques & Collectables

QAQAQAAs I chatted to an elderly neighbour recently, the subject of football came up and she told me she had only ever been to one match in her life. After a while I realised she was talking about the 1966 World Cup and she produced two tickets together with a programme and a magazine. Please could you advise us how to sell these items? Colin Matthews, via email Your two “tickets” are actually stubs and not from the final – they are from England v Uruguay on July 11. They are in okay condition which is good news but they have been stapled, so have small holes in them. The value of such stubs will vary depending on demand and condition but yours could be worth £25-£50 each. A World Cup official tournament programme makes £35-£45 whereas your magazine, England’s World Cup, was published after the finals and is worth £10-£20. American actress Doris Day made her film debut in 1948 romantic musical It’s Magic, opposite Jack Carson. I have an original set of eight front-of-house stills from the film, measuring 10in by 8in. They are all in very good condition apart from one or two pin holes, but the best part about them is that Doris has signed the title still. What might their value be? Norman Bamford, Bolton Your items, also known as lobby cards, were intended for display outside cinemas in glass cases. The film is not regarded as an iconic one so you’re probably looking at around £20 each. The signed example is a bit more special and – if authenticated – may be worth twice that. I have a pair of opera glasses which belonged to my great-grandmother. They are made by Duchesee, have a focus shifter in the middle and are in very good condition. Are these ever sought after by collectors? Anne Merchant, Acton, London Duchesee, which was based in Paris, made opera glasses using a number of materials such as bronze and mother of pearl and often they were hand-enamelled. In the mid to late 1800s, right through to the present day, opera glasses have always been luxury items. Your pair would be probably date from 1880-1890 and are worth £100 or more to a collector.
