MAGPIES AXE FOR ALEK

- BY JOHN RICHARDSON & NEIL MOXLEY

NEWCASTLE are ready to sell hot-headed striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Toon chief Rafa Benitez feels he cannot trust the 21-year-old, who is currently serving a four-game ban.

The Serbia international was sent off twice last season – the second time during Toon’s 5-1 victory over Tottenham on the final day.

Benitez would like to offload Mitrovic in the current transfer window as he continues to rebuild the club, with Toon’s shock 1-0 Championship defeat at Fulham on Friday night suggesting he still has a lot of work to do.

Mitrovic has had frequent run-ins with officials during his time on Tyneside, with four yellows and two reds since his £13million arrival from Anderlecht last season.

Benitez is looking to strengthen, especially with France international Moussa Sissoko on the wanted list of both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. The Magpies manager is also hoping to tie up a loan deal for Everton’s Brendan Galloway.

Spaniard Benitez is waiting on an answer from Ronald Koeman as to whether he will be successful in a temporary swoop for the Goodison Park starlet.

Galloway, 20, impressed after breaking into the Toffees’ first team during the early part of last season under Roberto Martinez. Injuries to Leighton Baines and Bryan Oviedo allowed the thenmanager to blood the youngster, who came through the ranks at MK Dons.

But with both of those players now vying for a first-team spot, Galloway’s chances of adding to his experience in the coming campaign appears limited.

However, new Toffees boss Koeman is in need of defensive reinforcements and has been unable to give his counterpart at St James’ Park a definitive answer.
