SAM CHANCE FOR IRONS

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

ANDY CARROLL and Mark Noble will be knocking on the door for an England call-up now their former West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is in charge of the national team. That’s according to Hammers team-mate Darren Randolph, who played alongside the pair (left) under Big Sam. Allardyce will name his first Three Lions squad at the end of this month prior to the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on September 4. Randolph said: “Maybe they have more chance, he was their club manager. “There’s only so long you can ignore people, if they are putting in good performances. It’s the same at club level, a new manager comes in and everyone has something to prove.

“So, I’m sure the boys on the fringes of the England team will be feeling it’s a new chance for them to get their faces in the picture – and Nobes and Andy will be feeling the same way.

“They will want to continue on their form from last year and see if they can get in the squad.”

Meanwhile, Hammers boss Slaven Bilic insists getting Manuel Lanzini, Aaron Cresswell and Andre Ayew fit again as quickly as possible is more important than bringing in further signings, although he admits he could do with one more addition in midfield. Bilic said: “If we go totally into the details, we are missing one player, but we’re going to see.

“It’s not a top, top, top priority. Maybe numbers in midfield is what we’re missing.

“We were lucky last year that our midfield didn’t get injured or suspended for a long time — we played basically with four midfielders in a system of three.

“The priority is that the players who got injured come back as soon as possible. Lanzini could be back this week, Aaron Cresswell is doing well.”

Ayew, meanwhile, is set for surgery on the thigh injury he sustained against Chelsea on Monday, with the club fearing he could be out until the New Year.
