‘POG ONE OF THE GREATS’

- BY CHRIS HATHERALL

GIANLUIGI BUFFON has given the low-down on Paul Pogba – and told Manchester United: “You’ve got yourself a special player, and a special team-mate.”

The Juventus legend was Pogba’s captain at Juventus and has watched him grow since arriving in Italy from Old Trafford as a teenager in 2012.

And Buffon (above) insists he has grown into a true professional since then – with the potential to become the best player in the world.

“It’s possible,” Buffon said. “The kid is a tremendous warrior on the pitch but also has so much talent. His control of the ball and the way he can swiftly change the play from defence to attack is special – for us it hurts to lose him.”

Goalkeeper Buffon, 38, has been at Juve since 2001 and has won seven Serie A titles – four of those with Pogba in the team.

“I have no doubts that Paul will be a success in the Premier League,” Buffon said. “It may take some time to adapt but I’m certain he will do it, especially as he knows the club well.

“I have seen him grow and improve during his time here, especially his attitude on the pitch and the way he works for all the team.

“Manchester United have signed a very good player. It’s not easy to compare him to greats of the past but he has many details of the games of both Platini and Zidane.

“With this transfer there’s no doubt United have increased their level.”
