Shock video posted by So Solid Crew

DRAMATIC footage of a police officer smashing a car windscreen, then sawing through the shattered glass to get to the driver, has gone viral.

The confrontation, shared online by London-based grime group So Solid Crew, shows the policeman ordering the driver, Leon Fontana, 25, to get out of the car.

He then hacks at the windscreen with his truncheon. When the glass shatters, he opens a pocket knife and starts sawing through it while Leon shouts: “I’ve got a licence. I’ve got insurance. You’re smashing this for no reason.”

He then asks: “What’s the problem, officer? Why ain’t I allowed to drive the car?” The policeman says: “You’re disqualified. You’re not allowed to drive.”

Leon, of Gospel Oak, north west London, escapes out of the passenger door only to be stopped by another policeman who orders him back into the vehicle. Leon then asks the first officer: “Do you know what you just done?” He replies: “I just need to know who you are.” On being asked his name, he insists: “I’m not TJ.” He says he is called Leon, and the officer says: “That’s it. I’ve not seen you in a long time, fella.”

Leon claimed he was a victim of mistaken identity, and decided to film the officer after alleging he is repeatedly harassed by the Met Police.

He said: “He was just aggressive from the get-go and then it was just smash, smash, smash. I just thought, ‘Is this for real? Is this really happening?’ There was so much shock.”

The video was posted on So Solid Crew’s Twitter account with the question: “What gives the right for this officer to damage this car @metpoliceuk who is he? Actions like this going viral will have kids going round damaging police cars @metpoliceuk speak up or is this ok in your eyes?” The Met Police confirmed that the incident took place in NW London on Friday. It said: “The footage will now be subject to an investigation. As this is in its early stages, the officers have not been suspended or placed on restricted duties. No one was arrested.”
