Lucas on time to pip Owls

- By JOHN ARNFIELD at St Andrew’s

LUKAS JUTKIEWICZ scored his first goal in over two years to help Birmingham take revenge over Sheffield Wednesday.

The on-loan striker from Burnley put away a clinical header from Jacques Maghoma’s pinpoint cross three minutes into added time to break the Owls’ hearts.

The last time he scored was May 3, 2014 for Bolton – against Birmingham.

His late strike lifted his side back into fifth spot and made up for last season’s defeat by Wednesday which put the skids under Blues’ play-off bid. Now it was Birmingham’s turn.

One down to a Gary Hooper poacher’s goal, Clayton Donaldson scored his third penalty out of five attempts to level after being upended by keeper Keiren Westwood and set up the grand finale.

Hooper’s goal was against the run of play and down to new boy Steve Fletcher, who looked to slip before putting his teammate clear.

But within two minutes Jamaica striker Donaldson smashed his fifth penalty right down the middle. That makes it three scored and two missed by the 32-year-old in a campaign where he has already hit four goals.

Carlos Carvalhal’s Owls had Birmingham chasing shadows early on but as the half wore on, the home side blossomed.

They expect to see new owners on October 17 when Carson Yeung’s shares transfer to Trillion Trophy Asia headed by Paul Suen. He would be impressed by the way Gary Rowett’s men reacted.

Maikel Kieftenbeld went close and Maghoma, who has just helped DR Congo to the African Cup of Nations finals next year, fired an angled shot just over before setting up Jutkiewicz’s late winner.
