Wolves lap up catalogue of Toon errors

RAFA BENITEZ accused his Newcastle players of making “mistake after mistake” as Wolves ended their six-game winning streak.

The furious Newcastle boss saw his side crash to a home defeat – four days after winning 6-0 at QPR.

Benitez ( right) denied that his men had got complacent after being lauded in midweek, but he conceded: “It is difficult to manage when you have so many things wrong.

“We gave the ball away too easi ly and made wrong decisions.

“We started making mistake after mistake. After the own goal, it was even worse.

“We gave them the chance to believe. The second go a l , anoth e r mistake. We made too many.

“That is why we lost the game.

“We are not very happy now. I don’t think the players got carried away with winning 6-0. It was more about the football decisions.

“They were wrong and we put ourselves under pressure.” Wolves took the lead just before the halfhour mark when Jon Dadi Bodvarsson fired in a dangerous cross and Chancel Mbemba fluffed his clearing header, planting it past his own keeper Matz Sels.

The visitors had a second goal on 62 minutes – this time a beauty from Helder Costa. The Portuguese winger forced a mistake from Ayoze Perez, then skipped forward and curled home a shot from 22 yards.

Newcastle suffered one final humiliation when Vurnon Anita was sent off for a late tackle on sub Ivan Cavaleiro. Wolves boss Walter Zenga said: “I am delighted because I got my answer from the team. We wanted to show Possession Shots On Target Shots Off Target Blocked Shots Corners Fouls Conceded Offsides Yellow Cards Red Cards 68% 32% 3 5 7 4 7 3 5 3 12 16 2 0 3 5 1 0 the last 15 minutes against Barnsley was an accident. That was a shock for everyone. “The spirit, how we started the game, how we played is a big plus for everyone. “Playing in front of 52,000 fans against a team on five wins in a row, no t conceded for four games, last game 6- 0 for them, 4- 0 against us – our approach was very important.

“We had to give something back for the fans.

“The players believe in what we can do. New manager, new players. It is not easy and you can have ups and downs. “It is difficult to find a player who didn’t give 200 per cent. Running, tackles, overall a great match.”
