Cazorla in Spain to cure pain

- BY STEVE STAMMERS

DO not be fooled by the perceived injustice, nor deceived by Jose Mourinho’s tributes to his players. Do not be hoodwinked by the Manchester United manager’s assertion that he has the ‘unluckiest team in the Premier League’. Do not believe he is doing a fantastic job at Old Trafford, only to be undone by misfortune or incompetent officials. There were plenty of shields for Jose to hide behind after this. Arsenal – an Arsenal as insipid and as grey as their shorts – scored with their only effort on target. United were, as Mourinho declared, the best team by far. By far. Before Juan Mata put them ah ead , it looked a certain United penalty when Nacho Monreal fell into Antonio Valencia. They missed chances to put this sickly, pale Arsenal to bed. Check, check, check, check. You could go on. But here’s a thing. Arsenal were that meek, Uni ted should have steamrollered them. Just as they should have steamrollered Burnley and Stoke City in the previous two home games. That SANTI CAZORLA has been sent to Spain for specialist treatment in a bid to cure the injury problem that has kept him out of the Arsenal team for a month.

The 31-year-old midfield player hoped to be fit for the derby clash against Tottenham two weeks ago.

He had been to consult Dr Ramon Cugat, in Barcelona, as he looked for a cure of his Achilles tendon injury.

Dr Cugat is favoured by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

While in charge of Barcelona, Guardiola was impressed with the success rate of Cugat when treating his players.

Other Spanish players now favour treatment from Cugat when they have an injury problem, including Cazorla (below).

Cazorla was given an injection a month ago, but the Spain international still felt that there was a problem when he tried to step up his training.

He has since returned to Barcelona to see Cugat for another jab during the recent international break, but he is still unable to train with the rest of the first-team squad.

Arsenal will now give Cazorla more time to recover before he extends himself in training.

Manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to have Cazorla ready for the hectic Christmas and New Year programme after he feels ready to return to full training.
