Britt’s all over in 17 seconds!

- By MEL HENDERSON at Portman Road

FOREST boss Phillipe Montanier saw his team produce a champagne display to clinch their first away win of the season.

Two-goal Britt Assombalonga took the scoring honours and Forest also kept their first clean sheet of the campaign.

Montanier said: “It was my birthday on Tuesday, so I gave each of my players a glass of champagne after training.

“I asked them for three points for my birthday, so I must thank them very much for my present.

“We played well against Reading and QPR in our last two games, but we were more clinical today.”

Assombalonga took his tally to an impressive six goals in four starts since returning from injury.

Montanier added: “We also had a great siege mentality in the second half and Britt is a very important player for us. He makes a real difference.”

But Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy blasted his team’s defending as Assombalonga fired Forest to a shock success.

Assombalonga netted the fastest goal in the Championship this season – after just 17 seconds – and added another before the break. Forest came to Portman Road with just one win in their previous 12 outings.

But their fans were in dreamland as they saw their team clinch their first away win of the season and also keep their first clean sheet.

McCarthy said: “It’s hugely frustrating. We couldn’t have made a worse start – it was plain awful.

“And then it got worse – the defending for their second goal was abysmal. Defending like that, we’ve no chance.”

Ipswich have now managed just one win in six home games and being booed off at the end has become the norm.

A weak header by Jonas Knudsen was pounced on by Ben Osborn and he provided the perfect pass for Assombalonga.

The big striker fired across Bartosz Bialkowski and inside the far post.

He struck again seconds before the break when he nodded in after Matt Mills climbed to head the ball down. Possession Shots On Target Shots Off Target Blocked Shots Corners Fouls Conceded Offsides Yellow Cards Red Cards 65% 35% 2 8 6 1 1 3 11 4 9 11 2 0 1 2 0 0
