Albion took the lead through Jackson Irvine midway through the first half leading to some supporters expressing displeasure until Callum Robinson brought the home side level on the stroke of half-time.

Preston have now won only one of their last five matches.

And Grayson said: “I understand the boos and frustration from fans. They’ve paid to come and watch the game.

“It wasn’t the whole crowd, there were a few murmurs.

“Our supporters have been fantastic.

“It was a different type of game and that’s where the players have to make things happen and not rely on the crowd.

and they had early opportunities and got the goal. We were a long way short of our best.

“Everything we didn’t do in the first half, we did in the second. We passed it quicker and stopped them from playing.

“They couldn’t get out of their own half for 20-25 minutes. You have to make sure you try and score then to give yourself the opportunity to win the game.”

Burton have now gone four matches without a win as they continue to get to grips with the Championship.

But boss Nigel Clough is content.: “This result will do us good in terms of our spirit, but it also shows that we have what it takes to survive in this league,” he said.
