Scarlett’s Gogglebakes Telly chiefs want jungle queen to set up camp in C4’s new Bake Off tent
GOGGLEBOX star turned jungle queen Scarlett Moffatt could be the secret ingredient telly chiefs want for the Great British Bake Off tent.
They believe the I’m A Celebrity champion is the perfect person to front the hit cookery show when it begins on Channel 4.
Scarlett, 26, gained a huge army of fans during her threeweek stint in the jungle camp.
Now sources claim she has moved to the top of the “wish list” of presenters in the frame to replace Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc as Bake Off hosts. A source said: “Scarlett is now a serious contender – she opened a lot of eyes to her potential on I’m a Celebrity. “She is young, very funny and just the type of presenter Channel 4 are looking for to front their version of the show. Scarlett may be inexperienced but the thinking is she could be paired with a more senior co-host.”
Among those being considered as co-hosts are Victoria Coren Mitchell, Sarah Millican, Sandi Toksvig and Davina McCall.
C4 supremo Jay Hunt, who poached Bake Off from the BBC in a £75million deal, believes she could become one of the network’s biggest stars of the future.
Time is on Scarlett’s side because due to contractual wrangles C4 are unlikely to be able to screen the new show until 2018. Paul Hollywood remains the only host from the original team that included Mary Berry.
Scarlett, who was working in a 9-5 office job until last December, is staying grounded despite the prospect of earning £1million following her jungle victory.
She is moving to a new home in London with boyfriend Luke Crodden and has told her management to put all talks about her future off until the New Year.
A close friend said: “She wants to enjoy a lovely Christmas, then make a proper shot at a long-term television career. She is prepared to work hard to achieve it.”
