Girls give it some welly at TK Maxx

-

HOORAY, the Christmas school holidays are upon us. There’s a week before the big day, during which we will be able to get all kinds of jobs done.

There are logs to stack in the woodshed, a gap in the garden wall to fettle and a lot of stables to muck out.

It doesn’t matter who does what, exactly, as long as it all gets done.

I always aim to be well prepared for Santa’s visit but at the weekend the children decided they needed a few little gifts for school friends.

The lasses came on the shopping expedition and we all returned at teatime, although one went temporarily AWOL in TK Maxx.

An assistant found Annas wandering in the shoe aisle and had spent a good while searching the shelves for her matching welly before realising she had actually been wearing an odd pair to start with.

The boys stayed at home on the farm, Reuben and Miles in the workshop whilst Sidney helped his dad do the shepherding rounds.

He usually spends his days helping me shepherd the sheep, opening gates, taking the string off hay bales and learning to use my dog whistle.

This year he was invited to join the school nativity play. He needed a costume and some props. “I’m a shepherd,” he said proudly.

“Typecast at such an early age.” I thought.

I reeled off a few of my shepherding accoutrements – namely crook, foot pliers, footrot spray, rubber gloves, electronic tag scanner. Any good?

Apparently not, a tea towel and a piece of elastic would suffice.

If only.
