“They have not been accusing me, never. They have been very supportive.”

And the celebrity hairdresse­r – said to be angered by claims he split with George 18 months ago – has maintained they were “very much in love”.

Detectives from the Thames Valley force are investigat­ing after an initial post mortem proved inconclusi­ve. Police are questionin­g relatives, pals and neighbours before they hand a file to the Oxfordshir­e Coroner’s Office.

Further toxicology tests are being done which could determine whether there were any substances in George’s system. The tests are likely to take several weeks.

The star, worth an estimated £105million, had a well-documented history of drug abuse.

In 2015 he secretly checked into a clinic which specialise­s in a modern alternativ­e to electric shock treatment.

It is believed George spent up to a year at the £70,000-a-week Küsnacht Practice overlookin­g Lake Zurich in Switzerlan­d. Last week tweets from Fadi’s account claimed George had tried to kill himself several times and finally succeeded.

The tweets, which stunned the star’s fans, were sent in the early hours of New Year’s Day before they were deleted and the account shut.

Fadi, who claimed the account had been hacked, declined to speak to reporters yesterday as he made his way back to a £3million flat owned by George in Regents Park, North London. He was carrying a large camera and was understood to have been snapping wildlife.

George was plotting a comeback tour when he died.

It is not known when his funeral will take place but it is thought two memorial services are planned for this month.
