HAVE YOUR SAY

- BY PHIL CARDY

TO RT HON KAREN BRADLEY MP

I wish to take part in the Government’s consultation on the Leveson Inquiry and its implementation, and I believe: The Government should request that Parliament repeals Section 40 now Repealing Section 40 is essential to safeguard the freedom of our Press and our democracy, which it protects It is morally wrong that newspapers should be forced to pay the costs of a complainant in a libel case when the court has ruled in the newspaper’s favour. No paper should be punished for printing a TRUE story.

NAME........................................................................................................ ADDRESS................................................................................................. .................................................................................................................... RICKY Hatton’s heartbroken mum has reached out to the boxing star following a bitter family rift, saying: “Richard knows I love him.”

Family and friends of the former world champ are said to be “sick with worry” as they try to heal a bust-up with his mum and dad.

Ricky, 38 – who has told how he became suicidal as he battled depression and alcohol abuse – spent New Year in Tenerife posting pictures of him enjoying “great craic” and beers with friends.

But he later hit out in an angry tweet in the early hours, saying: “Great time in Tenerife with me pals. Good job i’ve got pals that are concerned about me because my family & ex couldn’t give a f***.”

The message was deleted several hours later.

Mum Carol then received a message from a random Twitter user saying: “You say you love family but you won’t break bread with Hitman Hatton.”

Angry Carol fired back: “I don’t have to answer to you. Richard knows I love him #fact.”

DESPERATE

Earlier she had tweeted the single word “Family” with a love heart symbol beside it.

As well as the family rift, it was only six months ago that Ricky split with Jennifer Dooley, 35 – mother of his two daughters.

Ricky’s family, who live close to him in Hyde, Gtr Manchester, are said to be desperate to heal the rift. A close source said: “His family and friends are worried sick. His mum and dad are heartbroken.

“His mum has tried to get in touch, tried to approach him. They love him and want the best for him, but it’s difficult when they’re not communicating. It’s very hard for them.”

Ricky is believed to have fallen out with Carol and dad Ray three years ago in a cash row which is still subject of a legal dispute.

Speaking last week the star said: “I’ve come to accept I’m never going to speak to my parents again. I tried to kill myself several times. I used to go to the pub, come back, take the knife out and sit in the dark crying hysterically.”

He also told of a huge gap in his life after quitting the ring, adding: “I thought, ‘I’ll end up drinking myself to death’ because I was so miserable. I was coming off the rails with my drinking. That led to drugs. It was like a runaway train.

“You can take on the world in the ring but this problem called depression, you can’t take it on.”
