NO Jamie Vardy, no Riyad Mahrez, no problem for Leicester.

Vardy, last year’s top scorer, has served a ban but still missed the trip to Merseyside due to flu, while reigning player of the year Mahrez is on Algeria duty.

There were other heroes at Goodison, with Ahmed Musa’s two goals in five minutes overturnin­g Romelu Lukaku’s secondhalf opener and Wilfred Ndidi enjoying a stellar debut to knock last year’s semi-finalists out – and earn the East Midlanders a first win in 13 domestic away fixtures.

Musa has cut a frustrated figure since joining the English champions last summer. But after replacing thigh injury victim Leonardo Ulloa in the 35th minute, the £16.6million signing from CSKA Moscow turned in a breakthrou­gh performanc­e.

Boss Claudio Ranieri said: “During the last month he has been much better and maybe he understand­s the Premier League now.

“He was a very big threat for Everton, similar to Jamie Vardy. Everybody was scared when he attacked the space.

“He was used to playingg in Russia. In Russia he scored a lot because he was quicker than the defenders but here everybody is quick, strong, physical.

“Now he is more confident and for me it is much better.”

Ranieri branded new w £ 15m signing Ndidi a “warrior” and he showed what an apt descriptio­n it was, winning just about every physical battle.

Leicester’s recruitmen­tt since being crowned English champions has been underwhelm­ing but the leggy Nigerian really looked the part on his debut.

From his position in front of the back four, he snapped into tackles, seized on stray passes and redistribu­ted the ball with ruthless simplicity.

There was even a cheeky rounding of Lukaku on the touchline just shy of the break to show his ability in possession.

Ranieri added: “He trained just two sessions with us and he played with a lot of personalit­y, recovered a lot of balls, won them in the air – and, for his first game, at
