COLEMAN EYES ‘SPRINGBOARD’
JOHN COLEMAN hopes Accrington’s Cup run can help kick-start their struggling league form.
The Reds last won at the Wham Stadium in mid-October, but Omar Beckles (above) popped up with a 57th-minute winner to secure what they hope will be a lucrative fourth-round draw tomorrow.
Stanley, battling relegation, took the lead through a Sean McConville 25-yard wonder goal in first-half injury time, but Jake Gray levelled for the promotion-chasing Hatters, who had Glen Rea sent off in stoppage time.
Coleman said: “I am obviously delighted. Sean has popped up with a worldly – we were only Possession Shots On Target Shots Off Target Blocked Shots Corners Fouls Conceded Offsides Yellow Cards Red Cards saying this week we hadn’t scored any spectacular goals recently.
“They enjoyed a spell of pressure, committed men forward, and scored. We are disappointed with their goal.
“But we have gone straight down the other end and scored. I am delighted Omar has scored such an important goal, his first at this level, and then I think we saw the game out professionally. “On the balance of play we deserved to win and our home form hasn’t been good. Hopefully this can be a springboard for our league form.”
Luton boss Nathan Jones was furious with the errors made by some of his players.
“It’s the same players making the same mistakes,” said Jones. “It is so disappointing.” 48% 52% 2 4 3 8 3 4 3 3 7 11 2 1 0 2 0 1
