Becks marriage is still strong despite ‘mistakes’
DAVID Beckham admitted making “mistakes” in his marriage yesterday – but insisted he and wife Victoria will always stay together due to their deep love.
The England and Manchester United legend, who appeared on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs for its 75th anniversary edition, said their 19-year marriage had lasted due to their “strong family unit.”
He told presenter Kirsty Young: “We’ve got strong parents.
“We were brought up with the right values. Of course you make mistakes over the years. And we all know marriage is difficult at times and it’s about working through it.
“Whenever we’ve come up against tough times we know each other better than anyone knows us, so we talk.”
Despite accusations that they stay together for ‘Brand Beckham’ , he insisted: “We stay together because we love each other and we stay together because we have four wonderful children.” Recalling their early years dating – when Victoria, now 42, was a Spice Girl – he said they tried to avoid the limelight: “I was still living in lodgings at the time. We used to sit in a Harvester car park.”
Asked which songs, luxury item and book he would take to a desert island, David, 41, included tracks by Sir Elton John and Michael Jackson, an England cap and a cookbook called Fire.
