Sick note Sturridge to be sold
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp will sell Daniel Sturridge in the summer after becoming frustrated with his injury record.
Klopp has conceded that the 27-year-old England international doesn’t play enough games for him to have a future at Anfield.
Klopp recognises that Sturridge can be one of the Premier League’s most potent goalscorers when fully fit.
But since signing four years ago, injuries have restricted the player to just 111 appearances where he has scored 59 goals.
Now the Reds manager believes the end of the season is the right time to let Sturridge go and bring in more attacking power.
Many former players, who still attend Liverpool games, have become increasingly frustrated with a player that they believe refuses to push himself through the pain barrier when problems develop.
Klopp would love to bring in former striker PierreEmerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, but the £70million-rated Gabon international is also on the wish list of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea. Liverpool are also watching Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams.
Sturridge would be disappointed to leave, especially with none of the top clubs in this country likely to be interested.
West Ham have made enquiries while there is bound to be bids from the Chinese Super League.
Another player on his way out of Anfield is Mamadou Sakho with Southampton keen to do a deal before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Saints want the central defender to replace Jose Fonte, now with West Ham.
If a fee cannot be agreed, Southampton boss Claude Puel will ask to take Sakho on loan for the rest of the season with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
