Morgan: Foxes on way back

- By nEiL moXLEY

WES MORGAN believes Leicester City have gone back to basics and found the right formula to turn their season around.

The Foxes skipper came up trumps with an equaliser in the last five minutes at Pride Park on Friday night as the Premier League champions kept alive their FA Cup hopes with a 2-2 draw against Derby.

After boss Claudio Ranieri reverted to type – unsuccessfully tinkering with Leicester’s formation in their past two outings, defeats by Chelsea and Southampton – the King Power outfit looked far more confident in their normal 4-4-2 set-up.

But Leicester are just five points off the relegation zone and face a tricky trip to Turf Moor on Tuesday.

Morgan (below) said: “We’ve changed a lot recently, trying to find the right formula. And this is something we are more comfortable with.

“It’s hard to remain positive when we are always conceding goals and losing games. But it’s the nature of the job to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off.

“It’s all about momentum. We have had a couple of disappointing results of late and need to get our confidence up.

“We felt like we dominated Derby, created chances and were unlucky not to get more than we did.”

Rams boss Steve McClaren was buoyant, pointing out that his side had drawn with last season’s Premier League title winners.

But in the home dressing room, striker Darren Bent was the butt of the jokes after his calamitous early own goal – although he made it 1-1 with a wonderful guided header.

Craig Bryson, who put Derby in front with a splendid left-foot shot, said: “Darren’s first was definitely a freak goal.

”Afterwards, we couldn’t stop laughing at him when he was talking about it. He said he just tried to kick the ball as hard as he could and he couldn’t believe it when it went inside the post.”
