miles from the scene. She was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, later changed to GBH with intent. Faye says she has lived the past year in fear of having to testify against her while battling her injuries. She suffers from severe headaches, back and neck pain and walks with a limp.

Matthews, who got pregnant to Faye’s old boyfriend of six years Mark in the meantime, refused to ac c e p t blame for the incident. “I wondered what she’d do to me if I gave evidence,” says Faye. “I think she’s capable of anything. I was told I could speak behind a screen but I’d still only be yards from her.” At Southampton Crown Court last week, Matthews’ guilty plea to the lesser charge of GBH was accepted. She will face five years at most because of the plea deal. Faye says: “I was relieved, but she’ll be out in no time and will still have her whole life ahead of her. I’ve got a life sentence.” Faye had no idea what lay in store when she was dating Mark, 22. “Chantelle was always around as her sister was dating Mark’s brother,” says Faye. “I really made an effort with her, but she was always very cold. She’d find any excuse to be close to Mark.”

TOXIC

Just weeks after Faye left Mark, she found he was with Chantelle. She says: “I wasn’t upset. I just wanted to get on with my life.”

But Matthews bombarded Faye on social media, sending her snaps of her and Mark together.

“I just thought it very strange,” says Faye. But she had no idea how toxic Matthews’ jealousy was until the day it changed her life.

“All I remember is hearing an engine revving, then everything went black,” she says. When she left hospital, her mum Annette, 45, and sister Leigh, 16, had to wash, dress and feed her. She even had to learn to walk again.

Faye says she has only got through with the support of her family and new boyfriend, Edward Goddard, 21. “He has shown me what love is,” she said.

“He has accepted me for who I am now. I just hope Chantelle has time in jail to reflect on what she’s done to me.”

Hampshire Police confirmed they were aware of the garage incident but said: “No criminal offences were identified.”
