10 o’clock chews... with John Bishop

Toothy comic to host ITV’s prime chat slot

Homeland. I’ve just finished watching it and loved it. It would be great to be cast as a strong female lead in a drama, like Claire Danes is. My favourite childhood show was... Sister Sister, an American comedy about twins who had been separated at birth then reunited. They were played by Tia and Tamera Mowry. I can vividly remember watching it when was about seven. The show that inspired me to work in TV was...

Brooke returns to Corrie on ITV at 7.30pm on Monday, February 6

Trevor McDonald made the 10pm slot on ITV his own – but now there’s a new kid in town. I can reveal that cheeky Scouser John Bishop has bagged the prime weeknight spot. But he won’t be presenting the News at Ten – that’s been bumped to 10.30pm. He’s the latest star to sign for The Nightly Show, a chat show ITV has worked into the schedule later this month in a bid to boost ratings. John – who once joked Here’s James Nesbitt doing a Sherlock and throwing himself off a building. Fortunately there’s not much chance he’ll die because, as the title of his Sky 1 show suggests, he’s a very Lucky Man.

The Cold Feet star returns on February 24 as DI Harry Clayton for a second series of the crime drama. Only this time he’s accompanied by a mysterious lady in red called Isabella Augustin, who is set to stir things up. his teeth “make up 30 per cent of his head” – will present the second week of the series, after BGT judge David Walliams launches it. Chef Gordon Ramsay has also been confirmed as a host, while French and Saunders, Jack Whitehall and comedian Sarah Millican are likely to be announced soon.

John tells me: “It’s a great concept and I like the idea of doing something completely different for a week. I also like the idea of rotating hosts – following David Walliams means I can have all the beauty products he leaves in the dressing room.” The show will feature topical stories, celeb interviews, music and studio games. After being compared to James Corden’s The Late Late Show and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, expectations are running high. And the hosts are seasoned presenters, after all. John’s W channel chat show, John Bishop: In Conversation With, has been recommissioned for another two series this year. Goodonya , John.
