“It’s very cold and I can’t imagine it any colder, but I’ve seen snow for first time” WELCOME TO MANCHESTER, GABRIEL!

“I’m adapting well ... but it’s not easy with things like the food and weather”

GABRIEL JESUS is one cool customer – on and off the pitch.

The 19-year-old Brazilian made his full debut for Manchester City last week against West Ham and was handed the man- of- the- match accolade after scoring in the 4- 0 walkover at the London Stadium.

And his performance was proof that the teenager, signed from Palmeiras for £27million, is now adapting to life in England with some success after the climatic shock of moving to Manchester from Sao Paulo.

Jesus grew up in his home city, where he played street football.

The young lad was spotted by a Palmeiras scout while playing locally.

He was signed and became a sensation in the club’s youth team – scoring a stunning 54 goals in 48 matches.

Graduation to the first team came naturally and City were alerted to his enormous potential while he starred for the Brazil team, which finished runners-up in the World Under-20 tournament in New Zealand in 2015.

Jesus was then part of the victorious team that won Olympic gold. He has scored five times in six matches for Brazil, including two in the last three minutes in a 3-0 win over Ecuador. Now, he is in the North West of England – a change in climate and culture, but he is learning fast.

“Manchester is very cold. It is weird for me,” said Jesus.

“And they are telling me this has been one of the warmest winters in years – I’m impressed!

“It is very cold already and I cannot imagine it any colder.

“I had the opportunity to play in the snow with some friends, something I had never done. It was a great experience.

“But, before coming to City, I knew what to expect and decided to come anyway.” Jesus’ compatriots Fernando (left) and Fernandinho ( below) have played a significant part in helping Jesus to settle in his new environment.

“They helped me a lot in the beginning,” said Jesus.

“I’m adapting well, although it is not easy with things like the weather and the food.

“But Fernando and Fernandinho have been great and have really helped.”

And the adjustment of Jesus has clearly been successful enough for manager Pep Guardiola to give him his Premier League start – at the expense of the talismanic striker Sergio Aguero.

A big call – but Jesus was up to the challenge.

Whether he keeps his place for this afternoon’s clash with Swansea at the Etihad stadium remains to be seen.

But if he is selected, it can be assumed Jesus will not be fazed – just as he was relaxed ahead of the match at West Ham.

“I treat things as they come,” said Jesus. “I have always been a cool person and try to talk through my game. I have been like that since I was a kid and everyone, who knows me and saw me growing up, knows that I do my talking on the field.

“I don’t let things get into my head. My family – especially my mum and dad – help me a lot. I prefer to be a quiet person and I don’t let pressure get to me.”

And his man- of- the- match award and first goal in the Premier League?

“I am very happy to have scored, but even happier because the team won an important game,” Jesus told Agencia EFE.

“The prize is a big boost for my confidence, but all the team deserve it. The way we played was sensational.”
